The Conscience and Justice Vigil in the city Van has left four days behind. In a statement at the site of the vigil, Musa Anter Peace Park, Spokesperson of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Osman Baydemir gave his assessments on the current state of affairs on Friday.

Baydemir stated that the values of humanity are under severe attacks for two years now and recalled that only justice will keep the society together. Baydemir pointed out the attacks against the mechanism of justice itself and said: "More than 5000 judges and public prosecutor have been dismissed and imprisoned. Now they are trying to mould a uniform judiciary, which they seek to use as a bludgeon to muzzle the opposition."

Baydemir continued as follows: "The aim of the Conscience and Justice Vigil was to tear down their mask, the mask on the face of the tyrant has been dropped. Thank goodness that the vigil has reached the conscience of the society. It is growing day by day. The same as a democracy is not possible without the existence of political parties, also the judiciary cannot be independent when lacking the right of defence. The prime reason of the imprisonment of Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ and all the parliamentarians, is the attempt to eliminate the legal democratic politics. They intend to form the society into one shape and force them into the straitjacket. As we have torn apart that straitjacket and fascism, also from now onwards will we disrupt and commonly reject that shroud of madness, with our love for freedom and our resoluteness to create honourable peace."

Baydemir continued as follows: "If the AKP represents 50% of the society, then why are they fearing the 13%? You will go down in history as a president who dreads the opposition. The Conscience and Justice Movement has once more torn down the mask on their face. The president of the AKP says: 'When the AKP weakens, the entire country weakens'. Stop it there. Why should the country weaken? Apart from you there are also other political parties. If you have come to power by the will of the people, then why are you imprisoning those who were elected by the free will of the people? The current state of the AKP and all its acts of these last two years bear witness to its greatest weakness. If there is some weakness in Turkey, it is the country's governance formed by the AKP-MHP coalition. The aim of the HDP is to rid the country of this situation. The country will undoubtedly be freed. And this will happen through an honourable struggle for peace."
