Selahattin Demirtaþ, Co-Chair of Peace and Democracy Party (BDP), asked that BDP become an official member of the worldwide association of progressive, labor organizations, Socialist International.

Currently, BDP holds observer status in Socialist International.

Demirtaþ also requested that Socialist International pay more attention to the plight of Kurds in Turkey as it pertains to democratic, labor struggles that Socialist International was founded to represent and fight for.
