Corona crisis: Lebanon closes its border with Syria

In view of the spread of coronavirus, more and more countries are taking drastic measures. Lebanon is now closing its borders with Syria. The measure is to apply from Monday.

Lebanon is closing its borders with Syria due to the spread of the corona virus. The border closure will start next Monday and is part of a package of measures that the Lebanese government decided on Friday after a crisis meeting with representatives of international aid organisations. However, it should be possible for citizens of Lebanon who are abroad to return to the country.

According to the Red Cross there are officially three confirmed deaths and 77 coronavirus infections in Lebanon so far. The country maintains close contacts with Iran, which is severely affected by the virus.
