Court rejected parts of Constitution reform package

Turkey's top court has ruled to annul parts of the articles in a constitutional reform package and send the remainder to referendum, the court president said Wednesday.

The Constitutional Court rejected parts of the articles in the package that would have changed the structure of the country's top judicial bodies, including the Constitutional Court and the Supreme Board of Judges and Prosecutors, or HSYK, Kýlýç said in a news conference.

Kýlýç also said the court made the decision after a debate that lasted more than nine hours.

Excluding the annulled articles, the package is set to be put to referendum Sept. 12.
