DEM Party spokesperson Ayşegül Doğan said that Sırrı Süreyya Önder’s surgery is still ongoing after a heart attack.
Sırrı Süreyya Önder, a member of the Imralı Delegation and Deputy Speaker of Parliament, was hospitalized at Florence Nightingale Hospital in Şişli after suffering a heart attack on Tuesday evening.
Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) spokesperson Ayşegül Doğan made a statement in front of the hospital, saying: "There is no new information beyond what the doctors have already shared with you. The surgery has not yet been completed."
Ayşegül Doğan added that they expect Önder to be moved to intensive care after the surgery ends: “"Once he is admitted to intensive care, we will share information with you about how the surgery went."
She continued: "Sırrı Süreyya is someone who has endured very difficult times. His heart has withstood extremely hard periods, he has gone through and witnessed severe events, and has taken on great responsibilities during tough times. Therefore, we believe he will come through this difficult surgery successfully. That is our wish and our hope. The fact that the surgery isn’t finished yet is not an indication that things are going poorly. It was already expected that the surgery would take a long time.
The doctors also mentioned that they were dealing with a complex case. But just because it's a difficult case doesn't mean it won't be successful. That’s why we are waiting with great hope. We are looking forward to sharing good and healthy news with you—that he has been admitted to intensive care, and that the hospital process is proceeding swiftly. We thank all the people of Turkey for their solidarity. Everything is going as anticipated. The doctors will make the necessary statements. We will also continue to answer your questions as we receive updates."
