The Die Linke parliamentary group shared MP Cansu Özdemir's statement on the PKK's congress decision on its official X account.
The message by Cansu Özdemir, a member of the German Left Party (Die Linke) in Hamburg, reads as follows:
“The PKK has taken a historic step and opened the door to a peace process under difficult conditions. Now it is up to the Turkish government: a peace process can only be called such if it takes place on an equal footing and with appropriate rights for both sides. Therefore, the release of Abdullah Öcalan as a direct negotiating partner must now be secured with legal guarantees.
This must also include the release of all political prisoners and an end to military violence by the Turkish military. Now, the German government can and must play a constructive role and support this historic opportunity for peace and democracy. A first step would be to end the criminalization of Kurds in Germany, which is based on the ban on the PKK, and to stop arms deliveries to Turkey.”
