The Democratic Kurdish Community Centre in Bremen was raided by the German police ın Thursday morning. During the searches, police seized many books and digital materials. The police also cited a warrant for the arrest of some people. This was the second time the Bremen Democratic Kurdish Community Centre is attacked by the German police in 2024. On 16 January 2024, the centre was attacked by the police, after which ‘gamma cross’ bullets were left behind.
The Free Kurdistan Federation of Eastern Germany (FED-KURD, Federasyona Kurdistaniyên Azad li Rojhilatê Alman-FED-KURD) made a statement condemning the German state's criminalisation policies against the Kurdish people.
The statement on Friday said: “The criminalisation policies against the Kurdish people in Germany have increased in the recent period and incidents resulting in unlawful raids and detentions have become a serious source of concern.
The unlawful raid on the Democratic Kurdish Community Centre in Bremen and the subsequent detention of a patriot is one of the most concrete examples of this policy. Immediately after the raid, one more Kurdish patriot was detained in Berlin and two more in Magdeburg.
We strongly condemn this wave of detentions and unlawful practices. The repressive approaches against the Kurdish people target not only the freedom of expression and democratic rights of individuals but also of a people as a whole.
This attitude of the German state is considered as an attempt to criminalise the Kurdish people and this situation causes German democracy to be seriously questioned. All those who believe in human rights, the rule of law and democratic values must raise their voices against these repressions.
As the Free Kurdistan Federation of Eastern Germany, we will follow this unlawful approach of the German state from a legal point of view and we will continue our struggle for democracy and human rights as always against these criminalisation policies, a result of Germany's relations with the Turkish state.
The unlawful raids and the systematic repression of the Kurdish people's demands for freedom must stop immediately!”
