The Peoples' Democratic Congress (HDK) issued a written statement to celebrate Newroz 2020 which this year is going to be marked by the coronavirus emergency.

The HDK said: "Our people will continue in their determination to build freedom and new life against the policies of denial and annihilation."

The HDK added that "today more than ever, we will be the voice of freedom and struggle against war, oppression, inequality, repression and arrests. In this 2020, when the voice of freedom and democratic struggle is stronger, from Rojava to Chile, Newroz will be a reminder of that struggle."

The Newroz statement continued: "The ecological destruction caused by the capitalist system, suicide, exploitation, the culture of murder produced by it will be countered by the struggle for democracy and freedom. We will enlarge the promise and struggle of a humane life to defeat the mentality behind isolation in Imrali, the same mentality that has turned the whole country into an open-air jail."

The HDK also underlined that "the manifestation of epidemics throughout history as well as the current coronavirus crisis, which has already claimed thousands of lives, shows that there is no single legitimate justification for the capitalist system, which goes against humanity and life. Capitalist has reached its decline stage and the spirit of Newroz will bring new hope to humanity."
