HDP co-mayor sentenced to 8 years and 6 months in prison

The Turkish regime’s political genocide against the Kurdish people and their elected representatives continues unabated.

Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) co-mayor of Van’s Özalp district Yakup Almaç has been sentenced to 8 years and 6 months in prison.

The 4th hearing of the lawsuit against Almaç, who stands trial for "being a member of an organization" was held at the Van 4th High Criminal Court on Tuesday.

Almaç, who is tried without arrest, and his lawyer attended the hearing. The court sentenced Almaç to 1 year and 8 months in prison for "propagandizing for a terrorist organization" and 6 years and 10 months for "being a member of a terrorist organization". Lawyers of the Kurdish poilticial will file and appeal against the court decision.
