HDP Labor spokesperson deputy co-chair, Şaziye Köse, issued a written statement today about the death of a worker named Kartal Kartal in Antep due to coronavirus.

The statement said: "We have lost one of our workers in the Akınalbella shoe factory. He had contracted coronavirus. The AKP government, which prioritizes economy instead of health, continues to encourage capital in non-essential sectors."

The statement added: "The Akınalbella factory was one of the factories we warned about as being at risk. Despite all our warnings and detected cases, these factories continue to work. People are dying to produce shoes. Ugur Kartal, 27, who was working in Akınalbella lost his life because he had to continue working.
Production in non-essential sectors should be interrupted and workers should be on paid leave."
