To draw attention to the connection between the two massacres and commemorate the victims, activists staged a commemorative demonstration between the crime scenes of the assassination of Sakine Cansız (Sara), Fidan Doğan (Rojbîn) and Leyla Şaylemez (Ronahî) on 9 January 2013 and the triple murder at the Ahmet Kaya Cultural Centre on 23 December 2022 when Emine Kara (Evîn Goyî), Mîr Perwer (Mehmet Şirin Aydın) and Abdurrahman Kızıl were shot dead, and three others were injured.
The action emphasized that the 2013 assassination was ordered by Erdogan. A banner read: "Erdogan gave the order for the attack: if France is not complicit, it must clarify the situation.”
DISTRICT MAYOR CORDEBAND: "WE SHARE YOUR GRIEF AND ANGER"
The starting point of the demonstration was the Kurdish cultural centre in Rue d'Enghien. Here, Alexandra Cordebard, mayor of the tenth arrondissement of Paris, gave a speech in which she again assured the Kurdish community of her sympathy: "We share your grief and also your anger. We stand here alongside Kurdish women, and we know about the Kurdish women's struggle worldwide. We know that the Kurds are our allies in the defence of democracy worldwide. I know that we owe the Kurds something. We know that the Kurds have a part to play in making it safer for us to live here in Paris, in France and in Europe. We share fundamental values and the vision of an equal and democratic world with each other."
MELIKE YAŞAR: "WE WANT TO MAKE COMRADE EVÎN'S DREAM COME TRUE"
Melike Yaşar, spokesperson for the Kurdish Women's Movement in Europe (TJK-E), pointed out at the demonstration that there would be a large mourning service on Tuesday and reminded the audience that Evîn Goyî had worked to clarify the 2013 assassination until her own murder. At the time of the armed attack on 23 December, a meeting to prepare activities for the tenth anniversary of the massacre was supposed to have taken place at the Ahmet Kaya Cultural Centre. The start of the meeting was postponed by two hours at short notice.
"Comrade Evîn was mainly responsible for organising the demonstration on 7 January. It was important for her that not only Kurds participated in it, but also feminist organisations and groups from France. This is what she dreamed of and we want to make this dream come true," said Melike Yaşar and stated further: "We have already emphasised it several times and we must continue to say it; the attack on our friends here was not just a racist attack. We know that it was a political attack. Comrade Evîn was murdered because she was fighting for the implementation of the slogan “Jin, Jiyan,Azadî" [Woman, Life, Freedom].
SYLVIE JAN: "WE WILL NOT GO BACK TO THE ZERO POINT"
Sylvie Jan, President of the Friendship Association France-Kurdistan, said in front of the Kurdish Information Centre at 147 rue La Fayette, the scene of the 2013 attack: "I want to contribute a light of hope. We only see darkness at the moment, so I want to draw attention to what has changed within the last ten years. For us, who are in solidarity with the Kurdish people, it is not true that we are at a dead point. We will not go back to the zero point."
In a following speech, activist Sara Marcha from the TJK-E referred to the legendary struggle life of Sakine Cansız, who was one of two women who participated in the founding congress of the PKK and is considered an unforgettable pioneer of the Kurdish women's movement.
