Istanbul quarter turned into a battlefield

Members of Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) marching in Gazi quarter of Istanbul to protest the brutality of the Turkish army on dead bodies of Kurdish rebels clashed with Turkish police on Saturday.

In the demonstration organised by BDP approximately one thousand protesters were marching towards Cem Evi (Temple for Alevis) when they were attacked by riot police using water cannons and tears gas. The youth responded the police with stones and gas bombs and the riot which turned Gazi quarter in to a battle filed continued for two hours.

It is reported that the quarter was blockaded by the police and 24 demonstrators were detained following the riot.
