On 14 June 2018, Emine Şenyaşar lost her husband and two sons as a result of the attack carried out by AKP Urfa MP Ibrahim Halil Yıldız's bodyguard and relatives on her family shop.

Her son, Ferit Şenyaşar, survived the attacks in Suruç district of Urfa, and is now carrying out the vigil with his mother in front of Urfa Courthouse. They started the vigil on 9 March, demanded "justice" and have been doing so for 271 days.

Emine and Ferit Şenyaşar, continue their vigil at their house in Suruç at weekends. They shared a post on their Twitter account saying "Those who practice terror by backing the power of the government are sent abroad by their proxies. Prosecutors are escaping from us in court…"
