KNK delegation holds round of talks and meetings in Moscow

A KNK delegation held a series of meetings in Russia between 9 and 16 March.

A delegation of the Kurdistan National Congress (KNK) held a series of meetings in Russia between 9 and 16 March. 

The KNK delegation was composed of co-chair Zeynab Mûrad Saxrab, KNK members Mahmud Daûd, Farhat Patîev and Araf Azmanî and met with many civil institutions, parties and organizations in Russia.

10 MARCH

The delegation met with Alekseî Çepa and Roman Bernatskiî, from the Fair Russian Party. During the meeting, the parties discussed the agenda of the world policy, the dimensions of the Syrian conflict, the Kurdish issue and the cooperation issues that will be develop in the coming period.

11 MARCH

The delegation held a meeting with the President of the Academy of Geopolitical Issues, General Leonîd Îvasov. KNK co-chair Zeynab Mûrad spoke about the developments in Kurdistan.

The delegation visited the Moscow Patriarchate and also met with Secretary of Foreign Affairs Sergei Zvonarev, who was responsible for the patriarchate's relations with distant countries. During the meeting, the situation in Rojava and Northern and Eastern Syria were discussed. The delegation touched upon the situation of Christians and people of different faiths in Kurdistan, and said that they consider important to reform the churches and temples and to protect minorities.

12 MARCH

The delegation was hosted by the Russian Institute for Strategic Studies. KNK members were welcomed by the Deputy Head of the Institute, Igor Borovkov.

Vladîmîr Fîtîn, the head of the Institute's Middle East and Near East Center, and Georgî Sosnov, the research assistant of the center, attended the meeting.

13 MARCH

Delegation members visited the North and East Syrian Representative in the Russian Federation, and met with the Rojava representative, Reşad Benav. Benav expressed his satisfaction about the KNK opening a representative office in Rojava.

14 MARCH

Co-chair Zeynab Mûrad Saxrab met students from South and East Kurdistan who are studying in Russia. Students expressed their views on the realization of projects related to Kurdistan and the Kurdish people.

15 MARCH

The KNK delegation held a public meeting on the Halabja and Qamishlo massacres at the Kurdish house in Moscow. KNK co-chair Zeynab Mûrad Saxrab addressed the meeting together with Farhat Patîev.

16 MARCH

The KNK delegation met with the members of the International Relations Committee of the Assembly of the Russian Federation and with the Member of the United Russia Party.
