The Kurdistan National Congress (KNK) has sent a delegation to the EU external border in Poland. In view of the dramatic situation of migrants seeking protection in the border area between Belarus and Poland, the delegation is seeking a quick and humane solution for the people, many of whom come from Kurdistan. In addition to KNK Co-Chair Ahmed Karamus, the delegation also includes Mecit Heso from the Congress Board as well as representatives of the Kurdish Society Center in Sweden, the Kurdish European Association KCDK-E and the Free Kurdish Community from Berlin (Nav-Berlin).
Hüseyin Yılmaz, co-chair of Nav-Berlin, told ANF that the delegation was stopped at a checkpoint eight kilometers before the border with Belarus. Further travel was prohibited, according to Yılmaz, and the Polish state does not allow civil society organizations to talk to the migrants and observe and document the situation at the border.
The KNK delegation made statements to the Russian, Kurdish and Polish media and then returned to Warsaw. In the Polish capital, the delegation spoke with representatives of human rights organizations and Reporters Without Borders. According to Hüseyin Yılmaz, the delegation received a friendly welcome from the civil society organizations: "However, it is assumed that the Polish government will not offer protection to the people. We think so, too. There is a humanitarian drama taking place, people are dying every day. Many institutions are making statements, but aid is not being allowed to reach the people."
Meanwhile, the delegation is continuing its talks in Warsaw and plans to travel to the border again to talk to those affected. For possible aid deliveries, the KNK wants to contact the Kurdish Red Crescent, Heyva Sor A Kurdistanê.
