Kurdish associations call for participation in protests against Paris massacres tomorrow

Kurdish associations KCDK-E and TJK-E are calling for participation in protests against the deadly attacks on Kurds in Paris.

In France, preparations for demonstrations against the deadly attacks on Kurds in Paris are in full swing. The Democratic Kurdistan Society Congress in Europe (KCDK-E) and the Kurdish Women's Movement in Europe (TJK-E) are part of the alliance organizing the protests tomorrow, Saturday, and on 6 January 2024. They are calling for participation in the central demonstrations to protest against the two massacres and the ongoing impunity and to reaffirm the demand for justice and transparency.

On January 9, 2013, PKK co-founder Sakine Cansız (Sara), KNK representative Fidan Doğan (Rojbîn) and Kurdish youth activist Leyla Şaylemez (Ronahî) were each murdered with three bullets to the head in the middle of the day in the center of Paris. There is indisputable evidence that this massacre was planned by the Turkish state and that a contract killer named Ömer Güney was used. The arrested perpetrator died shortly before the start of the murder trial in Paris.

Almost ten years later, on December 23, 2022, Emine Kara (Evîn Goyî), member of the Executive Council of the KCK, Mîr Perwer (Mehmet Şirin Aydın) from the Kurdish cultural movement and long-time activist Abdurrahman Kızıl were murdered in a second attack in front of the Ahmet Kaya Cultural Center in Paris. The public prosecutor's office is responsible for the investigation, and there is a theory that he was a mentally unstable racist. However, Kurdish associations do not share this interpretation and are calling for it to be classified as a terrorist attack. However, the National Public Prosecutor's Office for Combating Terrorism (PNAT) does not want to get involved because the attack is not of a "terrorist nature". The attack in a church in Nice in the south of France in 2022, for example, was also investigated by the counter-terrorism unit, although the perpetrator is said to have been mentally ill.

"It is important that Kurds and their friends and companions take a clear stance against the perpetrators of the Paris massacres and those who condone them," Murat Ceylan, member of the KCDK-E Council, told ANF.

Zozan Serhat, representative of TJK-E, demands accountability for the attacks in Paris. "France owes us justice," said the activist, adding that the murderers are known. "The delay in solving the murders of our people is a fundamental denial of justice and human dignity."

The first major demonstration in Paris will take place at 11 a.m on 23 December and the second on 6 JAnuary 2024 to demand accountability for the Paris massacres and an end to the threats and killings of the Kurds.
