Kurdish people leader says peace still possible

If a solution is not found then ‘special law’ lobbies will drag the country into a civil war.” said PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan. The imprisoned Kurdish leader also enumerated basic conditions for the Kurdish problem in Turkey to be solved. The conditions include bringing the 10% election threshold down, abolishing the Turkish anti-terror law, releasing imprisoned children as well as the detainees of KCK case and preparing a democratic constitution for Turkey.

In the course of lawyer visit on Wednesday Öcalan drew attention on the increasing clashes between the Kurdish rebels and the Turkish army. He further declared the basic condition for a solution.

Öcalan said: A suitable psychological environment should be prepared.

“My approach regarding the solution is clear. I could deepen the Kurdistan Revolution which would have left millions of people dead, like Vietnam Revolution has left. I, however prefer a democratic solution based on a democratic constitution. A democratic constitution is a sine qua non for us. Before writing such a constitution some concrete steps are also needed, which can also be considered as good faith gesture. In order to create a suitable psychological atmosphere %10 threshold should be reduced, anti-terror law should be abolished and imprisoned children and detainees in the KCK case should be released. After these step a new constitution can be prepared.”

Call to the Turkish PM

“AKP government can realise these conditions with the support from the opposition as well as the civil society within Turkey. I am herewith reiterating my call to Erdoðan that a peaceful solution is still possible and the parliament is the correct venue for that. I am not sure yet whether Erdoðan is capable of developing such a solution. His power might be limited. But if AKP fails to find a solution based on a democratic constitution they can also find themselves in the middle of a conspiracy, like 3 other conspiracies took place in the past. In that case they should not lay the blame on us. Neither BDP nor the PKK can be held responsible. The responsibility merely belongs to governing party AKP. Once the chance for a solution is missed then special war lobbies will step on the stage and AKP will not be able to cope with them. These lobbies are in bureaucracy, judiciary, army and all over. I am just warning AKP about these lobbies. And if AKP does not want to face another coup d’état then it has to be brave. AKP should perform a coherent, stable and strong-willed attitude. Otherwise, war lobbies will bring an end to their existence as well.”

I am insisting on the solution

“If a democratic solution cannot be found then Kurdistan Revolution will deepen which will intensify the clashes. But what I know is that nobody is capable of extirpating the Kurds from the mountains of Kurdistan. Even if they sent an army composed of thousand of soldiers they cannot achieve anything. It is impossible to defeat the Kurds in those mountains. Even though both sides give huge number of losses yet the Kurdish will win. But as I said that is not we prefer. I have been struggling to prevent such a result. I am working for a democratic solution, without shedding blood and I am still insisting on it.”

A Bilateral ceasefire is needed

“I totally agree with the declaration by the NGO’s in Diyarbakir. A bilateral cease can be made. KCK may obey such a will. But it should be know that nobody will wait like a sacrificial lamb. They will use their right to self-defence. It is a universal right. Self-defence should be developed in a variety of field like law, economy and diplomacy. Such self-defence will bring a de facto autonomy.”

Everybody should be mobilized for the elections

“Democratic mobilization is needed. It is not for war but for the elections. In order to create a basis for a democratic constitution a great success in the elections is a must. Not only in judiciary but also in the fields of bureaucracy, society, politics there are obstructions. It is the responsibility of the government to prevent these lobbies creating obstructions. ”
