The Newroz fire was lit by families of martyrs who fell in the freedom struggle.

Kurds living in Sydney, Australia celebrated Kurdish New Year Newroz. The event in front of the Democratic Kurdish Community Centre, where families of martyrs lit Newroz fire, began with a minute’s silence.

Members of the people’s council and the institution representatives attended the event while a mass celebration couldn’t be organised despite as part of measures against the coronavirus pandemic.

A speech made at the event wished a happy Newroz to the peoples of Kurdistan and hoped that the Newroz would conduce toward the freedom of Kurdish people’s leader Abdullah Öcalan and peace in Kurdistan and the world.
