Martyrs’ families demonstrate in front of the European Parliament

“Leyla Güven's action brings Kurdish women one step closer to freedom. There is hope for all the women of the world."

Families of the fighters who fell martyrs in the struggle for Kurdish freedom organised a demonstration in front of the European Parliament in Brussels on Thursday.

The families were protesting the aggravated isolation against Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

They also wanted to show solidarity with the hunger strike resistance that bears the same demand.

Families carrying the photographs of their children who fell martyrs in the struggle for Kurdistan, said: “Leyla's resistance is our resistance. We want an answer to this honorable resistance.”

Mother Asya, speaking on behalf of the martyrs’ families said: “Kurds and Kurdish women have gone through very difficult times. We've been slaughtered and we paid a great price. Actually, we continue to pay a great price. Despite all of this, we have not bowed and indeed we even increased our struggle. Today, the name of this struggle and resistance is Leyla Güven and Nasır Yağız. We call on the European Parliament to fulfill its responsibility. End the isolation against our leader. Leyla Güven has been on hunger strike for 78 days demanding the end of isolation. Listen to her resistance. Stop playing blind, deaf and dumb when it comes to Kurds.

Zilan Serhat spoke on behalf of the Kurdish Women’s Movement in Europe, TJK-E and said the following:

“Leyla Güven's action brings Kurdish women one step closer to freedom. There is hope for all the women of the world. Kurdish women once again raise the resistance and struggle with Leyla Güven. We must bring Leyla Güven's honorable resistance and action everywhere. Leyla said that this resistance will last until our leader is freed.”
