This week, members of the Lucerne DKTM took over the vigil for the freedom of Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan in Strasbourg.
The Freedom for Öcalan Vigil was launched on 25 June 2012 to demand the end of the isolation of Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan and to ensure his physical freedom. The vigil entered its 526th week.
The action is held where various European institutions are located and is carried out every week by different groups of Kurds living in Europe.
DKTM (Democratic Kurdish Community Center) members in Lucerne took over the vigil this week. The group includes Abdurrahim Ilbaş, Müha Şahin and Vecdi Ilhan.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Abdurrahim Ilbaş drew attention to the fact that the Kurdish people have been in action in front of European institutions for 10 years.
Ilbaş emphasized Europe's role in isolation by saying that "Europe plays the blind, deaf and dumb."
Ilbaş said: “This is our call to the people of Europe and to the people of Kurdistan. Our first agenda should always be Leader Öcalan. Because Leader Öcalan's freedom is Kurdistan's freedom."
