Dr. Adnan Selçuk Mızraklı, through his lawyers from the Kayseri prison, has made proposals on how to deal with the corona crisis. The doctor was elected mayor of Amed (Diyarbakir) a year ago. In August he was removed from office by the Turkish Ministry of the Interior and replaced by a trustee. He has been in prison since October. On March 9, he was sentenced to over nine years in prison for "membership of an armed terrorist organization". The charge was based on the fabricated statements of a key witness who appears in numerous trials against Kurdish politicians.

The message of Selçuk Mızraklı includes the following;

"There is no problem that cannot be overcome with knowledge, conviction, patience and solidarity. We will also overcome the danger of the corona virus before it turns into an apocalypse syndrome. We must overcome it.

We should not deal with this question in panic, but rather, in faith in science, implement what is advised. Difficult times like these can only be overcome if we maintain high morale. We will overcome this crisis by expanding our solidarity network.

In Amed and all other cities, health committees must be established and civil efforts for solidarity and education must be organized. These people's committees can include health professionals who have been dismissed from the public service by emergency decree. In cooperation with the trade unions, these professionals can contribute their knowledge and experience to the health of the population. However, we should not be content with this alone. Let us bring together all our potential to promote solidarity in all areas of life. Let us use the social media, youth and women's labor to ensure that all disadvantaged groups, the poor, the disabled and the elderly, receive the necessary food and hygiene products.

Let us use our cultural work to give moral support to our people with street music and balcony concerts. Amed can become the stronghold of this work with its natural enthusiasm. In this solidarity network we should pay attention to multilingualism and exchange information and experiences throughout Kurdistan. Of course, this should not take place in large groups. Each artist, each individual should sing songs about freedom and solidarity with the Newroz enthusiasm. Loud resistance songs have always been sung in Amed and I am sure that it will be the same now.

Against the unhealthy life that capitalist modernity imposes on us, let us stand up for the healthy life of democratic modernity. Let us use natural products. Let us make vinegar at home, which is both natural and hygienic. Let us use this vinegar not only for eating but also for cleaning our environment. Clean air is essential. Let us air the closed rooms we are in frequently. Let us enjoy the sun for five to ten minutes every day.

The main cause of epidemics is the living conditions imposed on us by capitalist modernity. If, on the other hand, we organise our solidarity and stick together, we can overcome all problems. This appeal is addressed to all Kurdistan. It is an appeal from Mesopotamia to Anatolia. We are human beings. With cohesion and solidarity, with hope and faith, with labor and justice we will fight and get through these difficult days."
