More detained in DTK operation in Malatya

A new wave of repression against civil society is sweeping through the Kurdish province of Malatya. After several arrests in the last two days, opposition members have again been arrested today on charges of being DTK delegates.

During raids in the province of Malatya on Saturday, five members of the pro-Kurdish opposition were arrested during a joint operation by police and gendarmerie (military police).

The people involved are accused of being delegates of the civil society association Democratic Society Congress (DTK). Those arrested are Mahir Aslan, co-chair of the Peoples’ Democratic Party of Peoples (HDP) Akçadağ district branch, as well as Abuzer Adıyaman, Birgül Doğan, Aziz Doğan and Basri Aslan. They have been detained in the police headquarters of the provincial capital MAlatya since the early morning hours. What they are specifically accused of was initially unclear.

The wave of repression against alleged DTK delegates has been sweeping through MAlatya since Thursday. In the last few days the activists Ali Piro, Azat İncesu, Fatma İncesu, Hüsamettin Kurultay, Sait Pektaş and Ali Yılmaz have been detained and are still in custody. It is not yet known whether the arrests will remain under police interrogation or will be transferred to a court.
