TEKEL workers who are protesting in Ankara against the privatization and dismissal of the workers are expecting a commentary from KESK and DISK trade union confederations.
On 2 July a group of TEKEL (Tobacco- Alcohol Factories of Turkey) workers coming from Istanbul, Izmir and Diyarbakir wanted to visit TURK- Iþ trade union headquarters in Ankara. However, they were taken out of the building by the police upon request from the union. Following the incident the workers gathered in PETROL Iþ and decided to remain in Ankara for while. Metin Aslan, a TEKEL worker stated that “Tek Gýda Iþ and TÜRK Iþ have decided to gather in Ankara every month. We came to Ankara in accordance with this decision. But obviously the unions have forgotten their own decisions.” Aslan further stated that “We will stay in Ankara for a while and visit NGO’s, trade unions as well as political parties and will ask for solidarity. We will come back to Ankara in August”,
Aslan also reminded the press release from TÜRK IÞ which he says being encouraged by other unions like KESK and DÝSK and said “We are expecting to hear from KESK and DISK about what they think of us. Are they on our side or TÜRK IÞ’s?
