Relatives of the disappeared celebrate Newroz

The Human Rights Association and relatives of the disappeared celebrated Newroz and reiterated that the struggle for truth and justice would not be given up.

The Human Rights Association (IHD) Amed Branch and the relatives of the disappeared had to stop their weekly sit-in on week 580 because of the coronavirus emergency.

A written statement was published this week instead of the sit-in to reiterate that the struggle for truth and justice will never be given up.

The statement said: "The relatives of the disappeared demanded to find their missing loved one and to prosecute the perpetrators every week for years with a sit-in organised in public places. However, despite all the applications, the judicial authorities and the state officials as a whole ignored the demands for truth and justice. In the proceedings regarding forced disappearances, the perpetrators were protected by impunity. They have been cleared before the judiciary and the fate of hundreds of people who have been forcibly disappeared has not been uncovered."

The statemen added: "We want to salute our people on Newroz on behalf of relatives of the relatives of the disappeared and human rights defenders. We will never give up our fight for justice and truth until the perpetrators are found and punished."
