One of the founders of the Revolutionary Workers’ Party lawyer Þiar Riþvanoðlu is on trial over a speech he delivered on Kurdish satellite Roj Tv. Former chair of the Adana Branch of the Contemporary Jurists Association Riþvanoðlu will appear before the Adana Specialised Heavy Criminal Court Nr. 6 on 28 October for the second hearing.
Riþvanoðlu is charged because he called the imprisoned leader of the PKK Abdullah OCalan as “the leader of the Kurds” and Kurdish political movement as “ the Kurdish independence movement”.
The first hearing was held on 16 September 2010 in his absence and the court rejected to wait for the lawyers who were on their way to the court. If he is found guilty Riþvanoðlu also will be sentenced to 13 years 6 months imprisonment.
Riþvanoðlu also has also been tried over an article of his published by “The Workers’ Struggle” magazine and acquitted. He was charged with 5 year-imprisonment.
