Second week of sit-in for Öcalan ends, youth takes over new week

The second week of the sit-in organised in front of the Council of Europe on 12 October to ensure the freedom of Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan has ended.

Kurdish youth and internationalists will take over the third and last week of the sit-in from by the the European Kurdish Women's Movement (TJK-E). The sit-in has been organised in front of the Council of Europe on 12 October to demand the freedom of Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan.

TJK-E activists at the beginning of the week, in addition to various activities including panels, also paid tribute to the martyrs of the month of October in the person of Martyr Beritan.

After a mass march on 22 October, a rally was held in front of the Council of Europe. During the two-day Turkey session in the Council of Europe, the Kurdish women activists organised many activities to expose the massacres carried out by the Turkish government and demanded the freedom of Öcalan.

TJK-E handed over the week-long sit-in to Kurdish youth and internationalists who will carry out the third and last week of action.

Youth and internationals will draw attention to the isolation on Öcalan and call on Kurds and their friends to increase the struggle in order to ensure the freedom of Öcalan.

Mass demonstrations will be organized between 28-30 October while on 30 October, the last day of the action, a mass march will be held from Kleber Square to the Council of Europe.

This are the actions planned for next week:

* On 26 October at 11 am, the new group will start the week with a press release.

* On 27 October, young people will organize various activities such as street theatre and mini concerts in the city. A statement and information about the isolation in Imrali will be handed out.

* Dossiers will be delivered to the permanent representatives of Council of Europe member countries.

* On 28 October, a mass rally will be held at 12 pm. On the same day at 1 pm, three people from the Global Öcalan Freedom Coordination will connect via Skype.

* On 29 October, cultural and art events will be held.

* On 30 October, a march will be held from Kleber Square at 1 pm. At the rally to be held, four people from the Global Öcalan Freedom Coordination will connect via Skype.

The action started on 12 October and is part of the KCK campaign "Stop Isolation, Fascism and Occupation - Time for Freedom".  It is being carried out by alternating groups from Kurdish civil society and the Turkish left.
