It has been reported that TMK victim Kurdish children, who were arrested and accused of throwing stones to the police, made a two days hunger strike to support the hunger strike of PKK (Kurdistan Workers’ Party) prisoners.
Over 4 thousand children have been arrested and put in prisons under TMK (Anti-Terror Law) which was expanded by AKP (Justice and Development Party) government. TMK victim children supported PKK prisoners with a two days hunger strike despite the food offered to them by the prison administrations during the action.
PKK prisoners had started a two days hunger strike to protest against the increasing military operations and the attacks on Kurdish people and to demand the government to answer the Kurdish People Leader Abdullah Öcalan. The act of PKK prisoners was supported in particular by Maltepe Prison and other prisons.
The lawyer of the children stated that especially the children in Maltepe supported the action taking up a similar protest.
Zincir spoke as follows; “ Considering the statements of children, they weren’t exposed to any kind of pressure during the action. Indeed, they were offered delicious meals for the first time in the prison to make them give up their protest. They were offered much more water than usual but children were determined in carrying put their protest.”
Zincir recorded that they didn’t get any information as to whether the children were subjected to pressure or violence after the protest. Zincir added that the usual problems of children, namely health, hygiene, education, nutrition and psychological needs, haven’t been resolved yet.
