Solidarity action in Frankfurt with political prisoners

The Committee of Solidarity with Prisoners, ATIF, AGIF, International Alliance, UPOTUDAK, Azadi representatives spoke about the situation of political prisoners in various parts of the world.

ATIF and AGIF organised a street performance in Frankfurt to mark 18 March International Solidarity Day with Political Prisoners. ADHF members also supported the action.

Activists carried photographs of many international political prisoners such as Mumia Abu Jamal, Ahmad Saadet and Georges Ibrahim Abdallah as well as of Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan, Figen Yüksekdağ, Selahattin Demirtaş, Müslüm Elma.

Activists also reminded of the situation of Group Yorum members who have been on hunger strike for 274 days.

Activists also drew attention to the situation of hundreds of children, students and ill prisoners still in Turkish jails despite the increased risks posed to them by the coronavirus epidemic. Actvists accused the Turkish government of having closed its eyes in front of the real danger to which thousands of prisoners are exposed to.

Activists also demanded freedom for the 10 Kurdish politicians detained in the PKK case in Germany and for Müslüm Elma, who is in a prison in Munich. 

The isolation of Abdullah Öcalan was condemned.

Activists also paid tribute to the nine migrants who were murdered in Hanau as a result of a neo-fascist and racist attack a month ago.

A poem composed by Young Struggle member Sarah for Ferhat Unvar, who was murdered in Hanau, made everyone emotional.

Mesut Duman, AGIF executive member and nephew of journalist Hatice Duman (in prison for 16 years), highlighted the situation of prisoners in prison in Turkey and around the world. 

Activists also protested the immigration policy of the German government and the EU and their cooperation with Turkey. 

The whole performance was carried out in strict observance of the precautionary measures prescribed to avoid contact and spreading of coronavirus.
