Swedish MPs in solidarity with Leyla Güven

More politicians from Sweden expressed solidarity with Leyla Güven.

Democratic Society Congress (DTK) Co-chair and Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) MP for Hakkari, Leyla Güven, is on hunger strike since November 8 in the Amed (Diyarbakır) Prison where she is held. The action of Güven, who demands an end to the aggravated isolation regime imposed upon Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan, inspired many other political prisoners to join the hunger strike, in addition to others from Kurdistan to Europe and Canada.

As Güven’s health is rapidly deteriorating on the 77th day of hunger strike, international solidarity with her action and demand is also growing.

Sweden’s Social Democratic Workers’ Party deputies Anders Österberg and Kadır Kasırga stated that the isolation on Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan must be ended and all political prisoners must be released.

Warning that Güven’s life is at risk, Kadir Kasırga said; “My expectation is that Leyla Güven’s demand, a most basic human right, be met and Öcalan be allowed to meet lawyers.”

Kasırga underlined that Güven’s demand means ending of torture-like practice implemented against Öcalan.

Anders Österberg also called for Leyla Güven’s demand to be met and the rights of political prisoners be respected.

Österberg urged the Turkish government to immediately release all political prisoners who are kept in prison with unfounded accusations.
