Ten activists have been sent to prison in Halfeti, following their arrest in protest to the removal of the mayor and the appointment of a trustee by the Turkish Interior Ministry.
Ten activists have been sent to prison in Halfeti (Xelfetî). Many people were taken into custody in the town at the beginning of the week during protests against the appointment of a trustee and the removal of the freely and democratically elected mayor by the Turkish Interior Ministry.
16 of those taken into custody were brought before the investigating judge on Friday after being questioned by the public prosecutor on charges of "resisting the police" and "supporting a terrorist organization." In court, they testified that they had been mistreated during the arrest and in police custody.
The court issued an arrest warrant for 17-year-old G.G. as well as Yusuf Yeşiltepe, Mahmut Demir, Aziz Çetintaş, Sever Yalçınkaya, Muhammed Saait Görgün, Kerem Bilgin, Berivan Kocaoğlu, Burçin Satıcı and Mizgin Çiftçi.
Adle Fidan, Yılmaz Birgül, Serhat Topkan, Musa Yalçınkaya, Muhammed Algaç and Elif Yalçın were released on legal reporting conditions.
