Thousands march in Barcelona on the 10th anniversary of the Kobane victory

Saluting the resistance of the Kurdish people, the demonstrators in Barcelona underlined that the Rojava resistance is a source of inspiration not only for the region but for all humanity.

Thousands of people in Barcelona, Catalonia celebrated the 10th anniversary of the liberation of Kobanê from ISIS and expressed support for the resistance at Tishrin Dam.

Friends of the Kurdish people, politicians, trade unionists, academics, women and youth organizations participated in the march promoted by ‘Defend Kurdistan’.

During the march, which started from Rampla del Raval Square, activists made speeches condemning the attacks by the Turkish state and allied mercenaries against Rojava.

“To defend Rojava is to defend equality, freedom and ecology,” said the speakers, pointing out that the resistance led by the YPG and YPJ in Tishrin is a source of inspiration for all peoples.

The march ended in front of the Turkish Consulate, where protesters condemned the Turkish state and the Erdoğan regime. Demonstrators denounced the silence of European states against the crimes against humanity committed in Rojava, and expressed solidarity with the ongoing resistance in Rojava. Activists distributed leaflets in front of the Consulate, higlighting the people’s reaction in the face of the crimes committed in North-East Syria.

Speakers noted that the freedom of Kobanê was won at great cost and is a symbol of hope for all humanity. “The struggle waged in Kobanê will continue for the peoples of the Middle East to reach a better future”. They stressed that the Rojava Revolution would be protected and improved with the solidarity of all peoples in the world.
