Top court to announce this week its decision on Constitutional package
Eyes on Ankara top court, this week as ruling on the constitutional amendments package is expected to be announced.
The amendments proposed by the AKP (Justice and Development Party) include some controversial articles that would reshape the composition of the supreme judiciary.
The opposition party, CHP (Republican People’s Party) has appealed to the Constitutional Court seeking the annulment of constitutional amendments passed by Parliament in early May.
Even if the high court annuls the amendment package, the AKP says it has no plans to hold early elections. The AKP signals it will not abandon the referendum.
The package is set to be put to referendum on September 12 regarding the reforms and relevant amendments.
