Turkey tryes to build new offensive against PKK

While the diplomacy traffic between Ankara, Washington, Baghdad and Hewler (Abril) is getting dense, Turkey wants the EU to be a part of this mechanism so that it can extent its anti-PKK combat in the international level. This traffic is fluctuating in a parallel way with the activities of HPG, the armed wing of the PKK.

Seven-headed Mechanism against PKK

Erdoðan’s government wants USA, NATO, EU and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) as well Iraqi government to fight against the PKK together with Turkey. The Turkish government also request the NATO to implement the Article 5. It is also demanding intelligence and super cobra helicopters from USA as well as Heron planes from Israel. It is also asking the EU to arrest the members of PKK and surrender them Turkey. It is further asking the EU to be a part of four-headed mechanism against the PKK.

This mechanism can be extended. In recent years Turkey, Iran and Syria have also signed cooperation treaties against the PKK. The interesting point of this mechanism is that ‘enemies’ like Iran and USA are becoming ally against the PKK.

Security meeting in Silopi

Within the framework of this inter-capitals traffic, Turkish, Iraqi and American officials met yesterday in Silopi, on the Turkish-Iraqi border. It is reported that the Turkish commander in charge of the Turkish- Iraqi border, an Iraqi commander and a general from the headquarters of the US forces in Baghdad were present in the meeting. No information has been gained whether any KRG representatives were present in the meeting.

The meeting was also confirmed by the US military headquarters in Baghdad. The headquarters stated that Turkish and Iraqi commanders in charge of the borders have met for the first time.

New outposts on the border

It is reported that one of the points that have been decided during the meeting is building new military outposts on the border. Intelligence sharing and making the KRG involve in this networks were others issued discussed in the course of meeting in Silopi.

EU Coordinator for terror is coming to Ankara

While Turkey wants to make EU involve this anti-PKK coalition, EU’s Anti-terror Coordinator Gilles de Kerchove will visit Turkey. Mr. Kerchove is espected to be in Ankara on 13th July and meet PM Erdoðan, Foreign Minister Davutoðlu, Minister of Interior Atalay, Minister of Justice Ergin and some others including intelligence officials.

Although it has not been approved by independent sources, it is reported that a thorough report on the Kurdish organisations in Europe has been prepared.

DEBBAH: We are not Turkey’s enforcement

On the other hand, the Iraqi governmental spokesperson in his yesterday’s press release said that “Iraq’s role in this anti-PKK collation is not working as Turkish police.”

According to the Denge Azad website, based in Hewler, in the face of “Iraq is not sharing necessary intelligence with Turkey, Debbah said “intelligence sharing between Turkey, Iraq and US is continuing. Iraq does not have to provide intelligence with any other parties without receiving anything in return.”

Three requests for Barzani

Turkey is also pressurising the Kurdistan Regional Government in order to take actions against the PKK. It is reported that Turkey has asked Hewler administration to cut PKK’s communications facilities, obstructing logistics and PKK members’ access to the cities. It is reported that Turkey sent these requests KRG president Mesut Barzani last week.
