A press release was read  in front of the Baqî Xido Culture and Art Center in Kobanê.

Euphrates region artists and intellectuals have issued a press statement about the attacks of the occupying Turkish army against Girê Spî and Kobanê.

The press release text was read in front of the Baqî Xido Culture and Art Center in Kobanê by Mazlum Cimo in Kurdish, Mihemed Eyaş in Arabic and Şêrzad Ebas in English.

Many occupants - said the statement - have fallen from the stage of history and collapsed, while the peoples have survived. In the Middle East, many repressions and persecutions have been carried out. However, they have come to an end, while the peoples of the Middle East have continued to exist”.

The Turkish state has been intervening in the Syrian territory from the beginning, said the statement, adding: “The mercenaries who have attacked the Syrian people were fed by the Turkish state. Throughout these years our people have suffered a pain hard to explain with words”.

The fascist Turkish state occupied the cities of Jarablus, al-Bab, Azaz, Afrin and Idlib, reminded the statement. “Now they want to occupy other parts of Syria including Kobanê and Girê Spî. This situation is unacceptable. The attacks of the Turkish state against our culture and our honor will not be forgotten for generations. As intellectuals and artists of the Euphrates region, we protest these violent practices. We will protect ourselves with our knowledge and art, and document the practices of the fascist state”.

The intellectuals and artists added: “We will not forget our fallen and wounded defense forces. We will not forget the martyrdom of little Sara. We are standing beside our defense forces”.

The intellectuals and artists said they strongly reject “the invasion attempts, we do not accept the attacks of the Turkish army. The Turkish state must stop the attacks and interventions against our country and withdraw from the Syrian territory”.

The statement end with a call on international forces: “We said to them; we won't sacrifice our history, our culture to your daily interests. It is our duty to protect the folklore and culture of the Middle East. Because without the culture of the Middle East world culture would lose its meaning”.

Martyr Yekta Children's Theater Group performed a play dedicated to little Sara, who was killed in Girê Spî during a Turkish army attack.
