The Afrin Canton Democratic Autonomous Administration issued a statement on the 5th anniversary of the declaration of autonomy in 2014 and promised to raise the struggle.

The statement issued by the Afrin Canton Democratic Autonomous Administration is as follows:

“The land of olives, Afrin is also a land of peace. In the war in Syria that has continued for 8 years, Afrin had always remained a safe haven of peace, and this was crowned with the declaration of the Democratic Autonomous Administration. Today we celebrate the 5th anniversary of this declaration of democratic autonomy.

Despite all the war and conflict in Syria, Afrin had been a safe haven for hundreds of thousands of Syrians and a land where peace reigned. The Turkish state and their allied gangs feared Afrin’s peace and democratic atmosphere, so they targeted the city and started to pillage.

The Turkish state used all their strength to disrupt the peace in Afrin in 2018, and they launched attacks together with the gangs and the pillagers. Hundreds of thousands of civilians left their homes due to the attacks and were forced to migrate to Shehba.

The people of Afrin have rebuilt their system in Shehba to protect their gains. As stressed in the Afrin’s Liberation Conference held there, they have taken on the liberation of Afrin as their fundamental purpose. Our Autonomous Administration has greeted this sacred decision with great joy and promised our people once again to liberate Afrin.”
