Civilian seriously injured in attack on Sherawa, Afrin

A civilian was seriously injured in an attack by Turkish jihadist occupation forces in Sherawa district of Afrin.

A civilian was seriously injured in an attack by Turkish jihadist occupation forces in the district of Sherawa, south-east of Afrin. The man's left foot was shredded by a grenade and had to be amputated at a clinic in neighbouring Shehba canton.

The injured man, Şiyar Mihemed Xilo, is a resident of the Kurdish village of Soxanekê. According to security sources, he was in a forest area at the time of the attack, which was reportedly carried out from the occupation zone of the Turkish army and its jihadist auxiliaries.

Sherawa is located in the south-east of the Afrin region and is surrounded by the Syrian regime and the Turkish occupation zone. The district is not completely occupied by Turkey. Areas in the east, bordering the neighbouring city of Tel Rifat in the canton of Shehba, continue to be self-governing despite the constant attacks by Turkey and its Islamist militias. The last major attack there was carried out during the Christmas period.
