While the number of people affected by the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic involving the whole world has exceeded 2 million, the number of people who died due to the pandemic has reached 159,000.
Covid-19 has not been observed in the North-East Syrian Democratic Autonomous Administration areas, however, measures are being taken against the pandemic with the support of Heyva Sor a Kurd and Heyva Sor a Kurdistan. Within the framework of the fight against coronavirus, a hospital has been set up in Hesekê thanks to the support of the two Kurdish organisations.
The hospital, which is prepared according to international medical standards, has a distance of 3 meters between each bed and ventilators. The 120-bed hospital consists of 2 sections. Section 1 has a capacity of 60 beds and is provided with an oxygen cylinder for each bed. The second section will be activated, as in the first section, with a bed capacity of 60, in case the disease spreads.
Hospital ready to work 24 hours a day
The staff of the hospital, which will work 24 hours a day, is made up of doctors and healthcare professionals from Heyva Sor a Kurdistan: 30 healthcare professionals and doctors affiliated with Heyva Sor will be trained for 3 days within the framework of international standards and the World Health Organization. The Italian charity organization UBB and Doctors Without Borders provide training for the personnel who will work in the hospital.
Patients suspected of having contracted Covid-19 virus will be taken into quarantine for 14 days at home, and those whose condition is confirmed will be taken to the 60-bed capacity section of the hospital.
In the canton of Cizire, where there are no cases yet, the second part of the hospital with a capacity of 60 beds will be activated should a very severe case be observed. In the first section of the hospital, there is an oxygen cylinder for each bed, while there is no respirator, while in the second section there are 5 respirators.
