The Girê Spî camp was established by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria on November 22, 2019, near the village of Tal al-Saman in the northern countryside of Raqqa. It houses 6443 displaced persons, distributed among 1254 families.
IDPs from Turkish-occupied Serekaniye (Ras al-Ain) and Gire Spi (Tal Abyad) spoke to ANHA on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, which began today.
Fatima Al-Bio, displaced from the occupied city of Serêkaniyê, now lives with her family in Washokani camp, 12 km west of the city center of Heseke. She said that Eid has no meaning for them now, as they used to receive Eid in Serêkaniyê with great joy. Fatima has one wish, which is to return to her city after expelling the occupiers from it.
Israa Ahmed is another immigrant from Serêkaniyê. She also stated that they used to visit the martyrs’ graves and cemeteries in Serêkaniyê during Eid. According to her, the real joy now is the celebration between relatives away from the occupation.
Immigrant Jassim Samaou, who lives in Washokani camp, said that "The fascist Erdogan and his mercenaries are the reason for our crisis."Samou spoke about the harmony of the components in Serekaniye before the occupation, "The Eid in Serekaniye had another meaning because all the components of the city were one family coexisting with each other and they exchanged visits during the holidays."
Regarding their wishes for the coming of Eid, immigrant Abdul Rahim al-Shaaban from Girê Spi said, "My wish is that peace will prevail all over the world. The real Eid is the withdrawal of the Turkish occupiers from our land.
" The joy will remain absent from us until the withdrawal of the Turkish occupiers who have desecrated our land," said displaced Zughira al-Hamad. She called on the IDPs from Idlib, Aleppo and Damascus not to submit to Turkey's plans to resettle them in North-East Syria in the place of the original people of the region.
