The MLKP Kurdistan (Marxist Leninist Communist Party) issued a statement on the occasion of the third anniversary of the occupation of Serêkaniyê and Girê Spî by Turkey and its mercenaries.

The statement said: "We are leaving behind the 3rd year of the occupation of Serêkaniyê and Girê Spî. On 9 October 2019, the fascist colonialist Turkish state and its gangs occupied a part of our lands and country with the support of international imperialist powers. This occupation still continues today.

On 9 October 2019, the invading fascist Turkish state first attacked with warplanes, howitzers and missiles. Afterwards, it entered by land."

The statement continued: "The MLKP Martyr Serkan Battalion was one of the first targets of the attacks. MLKP fighter Demhat Günebakan and five of our comrades from the Martyr Elîşêr Brigade, who were on duty against the invasion war on the border line, were killed in the first attack by the enemy. The people of Rojava, the people's army SDF, Communists and Internationalists fought for days against the occupation of Serêkaniyê and Girê Spî. They put up resistance in Canfeda. We once again commemorate the martyred people of Serêkaniyê and Girê Spi, the MLKP, YPG, YPJ, Martyr Elîşêr Brigade and SDF fighters. Our war will continue until we crown their ideals and struggle with victory and liberate the occupied lands."
