More COVID-19 cases reported in North-East Syria

In the autonomous region of North and East Syria, 34 new corona infections have been detected. The total number of infection cases is thus 253. 15 infected people have died so far.

According to the Health Committee of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, the number of detected coronavirus infections has increased by 34 cases compared to the previous day. The infected persons are 21 men and 13 women. 13 new infections were confirmed in Hesekê, eleven in Qamishlo, five in Dêrik, four in Amûdê and one in Girkê Legê.

The co-chair of the Health Committee, Ciwan Mistefa, stated another eight infected persons have recovered. There have been no deaths in the past 24 hours. The total number of cases of infection is thus 253, while 36 people have recovered, and 15 infected persons have died so far.

Meanwhile, the pandemic crisis team in the Euphrates region has adopted new precautionary measures. The only exceptions are emergencies, transport of vital goods and humanitarian aid organisations. Gatherings of people in wedding halls, cafés and parks are prohibited, as are mass prayers in mosques and the erection of tents for receiving condolences in cases of death. Restaurants and pubs are only allowed to sell outside. Visits to hospitals and prisons are currently not possible. Schools remain closed.

In the Cizîrê region, the curfew that has been in place since July 6 has been extended until August 27.

In the Damascus-controlled areas of Syria, 1844 cases of infection have so far been confirmed, 73 people have died, according to official figures released on Tuesday evening.
