Dozens of political parties from the Turkish-occupied Afrin region made a press statement in the Ehdas district of the Shehba canton on Sunday and called for international action against an imminent invasion operation by the Turkish state against North-East Syria.
The press statement in Kurdish and Arabic was read by Democratic Society Movement (TEV-DEM) Afrin Region Education Committee member and Future Syria Party Afrin-Shehba Public Relations Office President Elî Selama.
In their joint statement, the parties pointed to the Turkish government’s policy of denial and repression and acts against the people of Syria who are trying to resolve their issue without foreign intervention.
Remarking that the 19 July Revolution represents the hope of the Kurdish people and all North-East Syrian peoples, the statement continued: “As the anniversary of the 19 July Revolution, which represents a solution to the crisis in Syria, approaches, we, the political parties in Afrin region, are aware of the danger posed by the Turkish state’s attacks. We have witnessed the use of banned weapons during the occupation of Afrin, Serêkaniyê and Girê Spî. As the political powers that believe in a political resolution more than ever, we should join hands and adopt a common stance against the enemy of the Kurds and Syrian people. We should stand together to prevent further invasions of our territories and all probable dangers. We should also liberate every inch of our land that has been occupied.”
The parties remarked that the silence of international powers that maintain their silence towards Turkey’s constant attacks on civilian settlements and new invasion attacks constitutes a danger for the people of the region. “The Turkish state will also jeopardize international security and peace by paving the way for terrorist organizations for an expansion on Syrian lands. This will bring about new humanitarian disasters for the rest of the people in Syria.”
The statement called upon the international community and international institutions to put pressure on the Turkish state and prevent its threats that violate international agreements through interventions in neighboring countries and could lead to a war in the region.
The parties also called on the UN Security Council to meet urgently and implement resolution 2254 to protect Syrian lands.
