Hundreds of people have gathered in Til Kocher in northeast Syria to protest against the Turkish invasion in Southern Kurdistan.
In the Til Kocher district in the Northern Syrian canton of Qamishlo a demonstration was staged against the Turkish occupation ambitions in Southern Kurdistan. Since the beginning of last week, an invasion has been underway in the region of Heftanin with which Turkey is trying to limit the guerrilla's room for movement in order to establish a 35 to 40 kilometer wide "buffer zone" through which Turkey seeks to annex Iraqi territory into its own national territory. There is fierce protest against this everywhere in Kurdistan, with demonstrations taking place daily. The guerrilla organisations HPG and YJA-Star are the only forces that are resisting the plans of the Erdoğan government.
The demonstration in Til Kocher was therefore held under the motto "Increase the resistance against the invaders". The protest was called for by the Council of Martyrs’ Families. Hundreds of people gathered in the early afternoon in front of the headquarters of the organization and marched loudly through the town. Many participants carried flags of the various components of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) as well as signs with photos of their family members who had fallen in northern and eastern Syria. The crowd chanted slogans such as "No to Turkish occupation" and "Turkey, get out of Kurdistan".
The demonstration ended with a rally in the central main square of Til Kocher. Qehreman Mihemed held a speech on behalf of the Council of Martyrs’ Families, in which he firstly condemned the air attacks of the Turkish army on Southern Kurdistan and commemorated the civilian victims who died during the attacks. Mihemed then called for strengthening the fight against the Turkish occupation. The rally ended with more slogans and applause.
