Turkey bombed the village of Tal Shair (Til Şeîr) ten kilometres northwest of Tirbespiyê in the canton of Qamishlo and simultaneously attacked a car on the road to Beyandor with a drone on Tuesday, June 20. The drone attack killed the co-chair of the self-government in Qamishlo Canton, Yusra Darwish (Yusra Derwêş), her deputy Lîman Şiwêş and the driver, Firat Tûma. Qamishlo Canton Administration Co-chair Gabi Shamoun (Gabî Şemûn) survived the attack with injuries.
The General Assembly of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) released a written statement condemning the Turkish state that carries out genocidal attacks against the people of North-East Syria, respectfully commemorating the martyrs and wishing the injured ones a quick recovery.
The PYD offered their condolences to the families of martyrs who made huge sacrifices to create an honourable and free life for the Kurdish people.
The statement included:
"The martyrdom of Leyman Şiweş is a great loss for the Kurds and the peoples of the region. Comrade Rihan, one of the first women to join the Kurdistan revolution, has become a symbol of the heroic Kurdish women with her struggle by breaking down the stereotyped judgments of society.
She did not compromise on her commitment to the values of the revolution. She fought for the people of Kurdistan in the mountains for 38 years and served her people until the day of her martyrdom.
Comrade Leyman’s activities were not restricted to the Rojava struggle alone. She also carried out activities in Bashur (South Kurdistan) to ensure and improve Kurdish unity. She took an important role in women's movements by taking part in Kongra Star’s activities for many years. With her activities among the Arab people in Manbij, she was a symbol of the unity of peoples.
As a follower of Martyr Rihan (Lîman Şiwêş), we reiterate our promise to remain faithful to our comrade Yusra, Firat and others who sacrificed their lives for their country. The enemy should know that the struggle started by comrade Rihan will continue at any cost.”
