In a written statement to mark the 11th anniversary of the Syrian civil war, the General Assembly of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) stated that the Turkish state should withdraw from Syrian soils for the sake of a permanent solution.

The PYD statement drew attention to the fundamental role of the Turkish state in escalating the crisis.

“This crisis turned into a bloody internal conflict between the regime and the opposition and has become a global problem following the intervention of international forces. As a result, half of the Syrian population has become refugees, both at homeland and abroad. The infrastructure of the country has been destroyed and the Syrian economy is teetering due to international sanctions. It is only the Syrian people who have paid the price for this,” the statement said.

“The Syrian revolution started with the hope of pluralism, freedom, change and democracy. However, it quickly turned into a proxy war serving the interests of fascist and radical systems that reject democratic projects. Hence, the invading Turkish state carried out attacks against safe areas. The government of Damascus is also trying to end the crisis by imposing its military hegemony,” the PYD continued.

“We want the crisis in the country to be resolved through dialogue. Negotiation talks outside the country to resolve the issues have been unsuccessful. Withdrawal of the invading Turkish army from Syria is the most important factor to resolve the Syrian crisis. If the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) are not recognized in the Syrian constitution, the rights of the Kurdish people and minorities are not guaranteed in it, and a decentralized democratic system is not established, there will be no solution in Syria,” the statement concluded.
