Thousands of students continue their education in Afrin and Shehba, despite the difficult conditions experienced after the earthquake.
Some schools in Shehba were damaged as a result of the earthquake that took place in North Kurdistan and Turkey and also affected Syria.
According to the engineers who surveyed the schools, Martyr Egid primary, secondary and high school in Ehdas and Martyr Kendal primary and secondary school in the village of Til Qerah collapsed and could not be opened.
The Afrin Region Education and Training Committee set up 55 tents in the courtyards of Martyr Egîd and Martyr Kendal schools so that students do not fall behind in education. Students continue to receive education under these tents.
Afrin Education and Training Committee Co-Chair Iruba Xelil told ANHA: "The safety of students' lives is our concern. That's why we set up tents for students to continue their education here until both schools are repaired."
Xelîl noted that the increase in temperatures in the summer would cause new problems to the students and said that the embargo on Shehba and the incessant attacks carried out by the invading Turkish state also negatively affected education. "Students' families expected schooling to continue. We know that tents are not the best solution, but at least education can continue."
Xelîl said that they are trying to reduce the negativities psychological impact of the earthquake on students by increasing leisure activities such as sports and music.
A student called İbrahim Ehmed stated that the conditions for education in tents will be difficult in the summer, "but this will not prevent us from continuing our education.”
Ehmed pointed out that the embargo imposed on Shehba, the incessant attacks by the Turkish state, and the harsh conditions of immigration increased all have a heavy impact on students too.
