SDF targets ISIS cell near Deir ez-Zor

The SDF has once again smashed an ISIS cell in the vicinity of Deir ez-Zor in eastern Syria. An ISIS member with weapons and equipment has been arrested.

Despite the Turkish attacks on self-governing town of Ain Issa, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) continue their fight against ISIS cells in the region. They succeeded in striking another blow against the ISIS on December 15. In a joint operation with the international coalition, an ISIS cell near Deir ez-Zor was rooted out. An ISIS member was arrested with weapons and equipment.

The arrested man is a smuggler who is said to be responsible for covertly transporting ISIS members from one location to another. He is also alleged to have been involved in assassinations and attacks in Deir ez-Zor.

According to statements by captured jihadists, ISIS cells in the region enjoy support from Turkey, as well as from the Assad regime. Both hope to undermine and destroy the autonomous administration by destabilizing the region.
