Sit-in in front of UN in Qamishlo continues on its 29th day

Activists taking part in the sit-in action in Qamishlo said that the people of North and East Syria made great sacrifices for a free and honourable life, vowing that, “We will defend our regions.”

The Social Defense Forces, in coordination with the women’s umbrella organization Kongra Star set up a sit-in tent and launched an action in front of the headquarters of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Qamishlo on 12 August. Organised under the motto "Where is your justice and conscience?", the action demands the imposition of a no-fly zone over the area.

Activists partaking in the demonstration were joined by members of HPC in Til Hemîs and dozens of locals from Qamishlo on the 29th day of the action, condemning the invading Turkish state's attacks on North and East Syria and calling for the closure of the region’s airspace.

HPC Til Hemîs administration member Mecdel Cuma read a statement and called on the UN and legal organizations to close airspace in the face of the increasingly ongoing Turkish attacks on civilian settlements in the region.

“Today, we are fighting thanks to the sacrifices of our martyrs and our comrades involved in the resistance. We will protect our people against the attacks of the invaders. We have made great sacrifices for our freedom and dignity,” the statement said.
