In order to further develop the education system at universities in northern Syria, a symposium entitled "Democratic and Free University" is being held in Qamishlo city. Three lecturers from Germany and South Kurdistan, who were invited as guest speakers, were prevented from arriving by the regional government under KDP (Kurdistan Democratic Party). They were denied permission to cross the border from South Kurdistan to northern Syria. Their views could therefore only be presented on Skype.
Dr. Mechthild Exo, a teacher of transculturality and international developments at the Emden/Leer University, expressed her regret that she was unable to attend the event in person. She then commented on the importance of a new education system that must be set against the existing patriarchal system. The most important pillar is the further development of Jineology, she said.
Hawjîn Mela Emîn, a lecturer at the University of Silêmanî, also participated in the symposium on Skype and talked about the need for a scientific exchange of universities in Rojava with Western universities.
The symposium will continue today.
