TEV-DEM issued a statement regarding the KDP's attempts to enter Shengal and called on the people of Kurdistan to oppose the KDP to avoid a new massacre against the Yazidis.
The Democratic Society Movement (TEV-DEM) issued a statement regarding the KDP's attempt to transfer its forces to Shengal.
The statement said: “The KDP insists on continuing its dirty and conspiracy policy towards the Yazidis in Shengal. Using the elections as an excuse, it tried to place its forces in Shengal and control the free will in Shengal. As it is known, the KDP fled Shengal in 2014 and left the Yazidi community alone, leaving them to face massacre. By fleeing, the KDP became responsible for a massacre.
The KDP's mobilization in and around Shengal is a threat to the freedom of the Yazidi community during this important period in which it plays a role in the political balance in Iraq in general and in South Kurdistan in particular.”
The statement added: “Creating turmoil and strife among the Yazidi community will have major negative aspects and will be dangerous. In this way, it will carry out the massacre that ISIS could not do against the Yazidi community. The KDP wants to occupy Shengal with the support of the Turkish state. It also wants to implement the 9 October 2020 agreement signed between Baghdad and Hewlêr under the auspices of the Turkish state. Again, it wants to prevent the real will of the Yazidis in the elections.
By drawing all the focal points of society on Shengal, the KDP wants to cover up its cooperation with the Turkish state against the guerrillas, its military and political failure.
As TEV-DEM, we call on all Kurdish people and especially the Yazidi community to say stop to the KDP's policy and to protect the resistance in Shengal.
We call on all national, political and social forces in Kurdistan to fulfil their national responsibilities."
