A large-scale Turkish attack on northern and eastern Syria is apparently drawing ever closer. After the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria declared a state of emergency on Tuesday, the women's movement Kongra Star is now appealing to the world public, reminding it that the defence forces of northern and eastern Syria saved the world from the "Islamic State" (ISIS).
Rîhan Temo warned at a press conference of the coordination of Kongra Star in Qamishlo about the upcoming attack and Turkey's ambitions to occupy a large part of the self-governed areas.
"Turkey acts in dependence on the US"
Temo criticised the US in particular, saying: "Turkey's foreign and domestic policy preparations are largely dependent on the United States. The Turkish state wants to attack the region, especially with a view to next year's presidential elections, in order to drive out the local population of the region, destroy stability, change the demographic structure and mobilise the ISIS cells anew."
"There is a threat of genocide"
Temo continued in her criticism of the international "guarantor powers" of the ceasefire, first and foremost Russia and the US: "They act as if they had no responsibility, they only make political and diplomatic statements and protect Turkey. All states know that the forces of northern and eastern Syria are protecting their territories from terror and have not posed a threat to Turkey's security for a single day. The people of northern and eastern Syria are facing genocide."
"Stop the Ottoman threat"
Rîhan Temo stated that the areas already occupied are safe havens for ISIS. The Kongra Star representative appealed to the international powers to stop the "Ottoman threat of the AKP". Temo pointed to the responsibility of the international community and called for the closure of the airspace: "The world public must fulfil its political and moral duty and protect those who saved the world from ISIS."
